Country Report on Women Situation 08/11/2007 03:08:39 The Philippines is one of the most advanced in promoting gender equity and non-discrimination for women in Asia. It is also one of the most open societies compared to other Asian societies in recognizing women’s important role in society. In terms of laws, the Philippines ensures in its 1997 Constitution to respect the rights of women and recognize their role in nation-building. Other progressive laws have also been passed to protect women against sexual harassment, violence, and discrimination. However, there is still a wide gap between good intentions and reality. Gender-sensitive laws and regulations in the country remain largely unimplemented. Download research00031.pdf |
