Thousands of workers under the Alliance of Progressive Labor (APL) marched for hours under the sun to commemorate the International Labor Day with demands for full employment, just wage, housing, justice, rights and to stop Charter Change (cha-cha). The workers are calling for the Arroyo government to stop pushing cha-cha to prolong its hold onto power. Instead, trade unionists from different labor groups banded together under a coalition on Solidarity of Unions and Labor Organizations for a New Government (SULONG) to push for the establishment of transitional revolutionary government (TRG). Simultaneously, APL member trade unions nationwide have mobilized not only in the National Capital Region but also in Lipa, Batangas in Luzon; Cebu City in Visayas; and Davao City, Cagayan de Oro, Iligan City and Zamboanga in Mindanao. Joining the call of labor to change the Arroyo government is opposition leader and a socialist university professor Randy David.
